Mandatory Training Resources

Basic Health & Safety Training: All child care providers will be required to complete a basic Health and Safety Training as a "NEW" pre-service training requirement and update each year of employment.  The Health and Safety Training will cover 10 specific topic areas that have been identified by the CCDBG as critical for all child care providers. The training will be available on the MSDE website free of charge this fall and will also be available face-to-face from an approved trainer or training organization.  The initial training, on-line or face-to-face, will count toward continued training requirements for current providers.   To access the training, visit this website.

Breastfeeding Class: Staff in any program approved for infant and toddler care (group and family programs) must complete approved training in breastfeeding practices. This is one option for completing the required training for “supporting breastfeeding practices.”  To access the training, visit this website.

Developmental Screening Overview: This four hour class will be required for all family child care providers, center directors and lead teachers in child care center. This is one option for completing this class.  It is self-paced course was developed by the Maryland State Department of Education and Maryland Public Television/Thinkport to help child care professionals learn about the purpose and benefits of the developmental screening process. This course will explain the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Office of Child Care mandatory requirement that takes effect July 1, 2017, requiring all early care and education programs to conduct routine developmental screenings on children birth through kindergarten entry age. To access the training, visit this website.

Including All Children and the ADA: All family child care providers, including assistant teachers in large family homes, and all child care center directors, teachers and assistant teachers are required to take this class.  This is one option for completing this course online.  This course provides essential information that every child care and education professional needs to know about the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Go beyond the definition of ADA to learn inclusionary best practices, strategies and resources for implementing an early childhood or school age environment that is inclusive to all children and families. To access this training, visit this website.
